Renegade Directions

Surface Preparation

The Renegade Wood Finish limited warranty requires that proper surface preparation be executed prior to installation.

Properly lay ground cover and set up other surface protection. Lightly sand out any scratch marks or gouges. Remove all surface contaminants, including: mill glaze (new wood), dirt, dust, grease, oil, soot, mildew, algae, pollen etc...and other potentially failed, or unwanted finishes with the appropriate Knock It Off Wood Restoration System.

It is imperative that all fungal growth and algae be removed from the wood surfaces prior to application using the TKO!/FOLLOW THRU wood cleaning/brightening system. Combine the use of Spore Spar Mold/Mildew treatment following the directions exactly as they are listed on the label.

Allow the surface to dry completely before installing Renegade Wood Finish.

Read and follow all directions and safety precautions as they apply to each preparatory product.

Note: All fungal and algae treatments are exclusively designed and used for the purpose of prevention. There are no products with guarantees implied or written that will completely prevent the growth of algae or the appearance of mildew on any surface prior to, or following, the application of any product.

The airborne nature of mildew, and the environmental conditions of temperature and humidity, contribute to mildew's dormant character and spread rate.

The installation of Renegade Wood Finish will assist in the resistance of mildew/algae growth on the surface of the film.

The common use of bleach products and oxalic acid not only present potentially harmful vapors to the applicator, but both introduce a toxic element to the environment without effectively terminating the growth of mold spores.

Finally, bleach can and probably will damage the wood. Do not use bleach!

Renegade Preparation

To prepare the Renegade Wood Finish product, thoroughly shake the container prior to opening. After opening, pour contents into another container making sure all ingredients are blended evenly. If there is minimal settlement in the bottom of the can, brush ingredients into solution and then mix once again until there is no material at the bottom. Box or mix all residual finish to guarantee color uniformity.

It is specified that Renegade Wood Finish not be applied without the TINT additive. A 5-gallon container of Renegade Wood Finish should be matched with one container of tint additive, REDWOOD, AMBER OR CEDAR. DO NOT apply clear tint base without the tint additive mixed in (5 Gallon Only/Single gallons are pre-tinted).

Application

All times mentioned in the directions depend on temperature and humidity and may vary from region to region. Always check the weather forecast and conditions allowing as much time as possible for the product to cure prior to precipitation.

For best results with regard to endurance and beauty, do not skip any of the preparatory or installation steps.

Follow all safety guidelines found on the product label.

Do not install finish in direct sunlight. If project is on the southern exposure, apply when sun is not directly above.

Properly mix Renegade components together as mentioned before.

Saturate wood surfaces with Renegade Finish to load the wood pores prior to absorption.

Allow product to penetrate 15-30 minutes before brushing it into the wood. If temperature is 85 degrees F or greater, brush product into the wood immediately following application. Be sure not to saturate an area larger than what you reasonably brush within 5-15 minutes.

Wipe up all areas where there is excess material on the surface. Using high quality, lint free rags, lightly and quickly wipe the entire surface. This is not necessary on highly porous or rough sawn wood species. The surface should have an even satin sheen; however, there should not be any semi gloss or high gloss areas.

If so, wipe down with thinner or mineral spirits.

Follow all guidelines for the proper handling and disposal of all combustible materials or by products used.

Allow product to continue to wick (penetrate) into the wood and cure for a minimum of 6-12 hours.

For the best results let the product absorb and cure overnight.

After curing apply a conservative mist coat. Repeat all brushing and wiping steps. Extremely smooth and newer surfaces may require a minute coating of thinning. (Renegade Exterior Wood Finish may be thinned up to 15% by volume)

Cleanup

Pick up all coverings and surface masking protection. Walk the perimeter of your work area looking for any tools and/or rags. · ·

Clean brushes, equipment, and tools with mineral spirits. Soak brushes in TKO! solution for final cleaning before rinsing and drying.

Properly handle and dispose of any rags or combustible materials. Do not fold, pile, or stack tarps. Do not store indoors or in direct sun.

Surface Care and Maintenance

Wash deck surfaces: once a month with Knock It Off Restoration System's Final Round, and especially before and after entertaining large groups. Wash off all surface contaminants every 1-2 years from vertical siding. Apply a recoat as needed to all wood surfaces with the Knock Out/Follow Thru Combination Kit I.
